Four Year Plan

Year One:

  • Meet twice with career counselors and academic advisors (in fall and spring).
  • Perform well academically.  Strive to keep above a 3.0 GPA.
  • Attend 2 campus organization meetings to consider getting involved.
  • Create and develop your resume.

Year 2:

  • Attend a combination of 3 career panels, career fairs, and employment information sessions.
  • Talk with 2 of your professors about your interests and goals.
  • Write a cover letter, and polish your interviewing skills.
  • Apply for internship and co-op positions, starting in the fall.

Year 3:

  • Develop a “Top 10 Companies” list.
  • Do Informational Interviews with 2 professionals in your areas of interest.
  • Have a professional resume and cover letter prepared and critiqued. 
  • Talk with professors and supervisors about serving as references.

Year 4:

  • Critique your application materials.
  • Participate in a mock/practice interview to prepare for a real job interview.
  • Set a goal to apply for at least 1 job a week.
  • Register for professional networking sites like LinkedIn, and clean up your other social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace.
