Where is the Academic Advising Office for business students?

It is located in 220 Holman Hall. Our office hours are Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. The advisors are available for walk-ins or appointments from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. [TOP]

Who is my advisor?

In the School of Business, students are assigned all of our academic counselors. We have ‘centralized advising’ so students have access to four advisors: Mrs. Stephanie Crosbie, Mrs. Melanie Hall, Ms. Kim Phillips, and Mr. John Forester. [TOP]

How do I set up a meeting with an advisor?

During peak advising times, students are able to meet with an advisor once they have completed their Online Advising System (OAS) submission. OAS is located on our website http://www.olemissbusiness.com/oas. After the OAS has been submitted, an email is sent to the student’s Ole Miss email account with a link to schedule an appointment with an advisor.
During non-peak advising times, students are able to meet with an advisor on a walk-in basis Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM. [TOP]

How do I drop a class?

You may drop any course online without permission until 5:00 PM on the assigned course withdrawal deadline (see Registrar’s website for exact date). PLEASE NOTE: Dropping enrollment below 12-15 credit hours may affect eligibility for financial aid, scholarships, housing, and insurance. Only in extreme medical or emergency situations, and only with permission from the Dean, may a student selectively withdraw after the course withdrawal deadline. A student may drop to zero hours at any time prior to the final day of the term. [TOP]

How do I add a class?

The last day to add a class (provided it is open) via myolemiss is the 5th day of classes. Between the 5th and 10th day of classes, a student must submit an Add Slip, signed by the instructor, to Mrs. Susie Potts in Holman 252. After the 10th day of classes, courses may be added only under extraordinary circumstances and with permission from the Assistant to the Dean. [TOP]

How do I take a class at another college or university?

Students must complete a Permission To Transfer Credit form prior to taking a course at another school in order for the course to apply to their degree. See our transfer credit page for more details. Transfer Credit [TOP]

How do I change my major?

The university requires that a student have a resident GPA of 2.0 or higher to change majors. The School of Business has additional requirements based on specialty majors that will be effective Fall 2017. You will need to complete a Change of Major/Minor form. The form can be downloaded at this link http://www.olemissbusiness.com/programs/bba/forms.html or stop by Holman Hall room 220 to pick up a hard copy. It will take 2-3 days for processing, and once it has been approved or denied, the student will be notified by email as to what steps can be taken next.
If a student is looking to switch out of the business school, the student would need to go the advising office of the degree program they are seeking.Change of Major/Minor Form. [TOP]

What is a non-business elective?

A non-business elective is any 100 level or above, graded, 3-hour course that does not begin with the prefixes ACCY, BUS, ECON, ENT, FIN, GB, MGMT, MIS, or MKTG. PLEASE NOTE: a student will need to satisfy any and all pre-requisite(s) for any non-business elective before taking the course. [TOP]

When and how do I apply for graduation?

Once a student has completed 90 degree applicable hours, they will need to complete an Intent To Graduate form. It is located at this link http://www.olemissbusiness.com/programs/bba/forms.html. [TOP]

How many hours should I take?

Most students take 15 hours per semester (approximately 5 courses) in order to graduate in four years.[TOP]

How do I withdraw from ALL my courses?

A student may drop all of his/her courses (withdraw from the university) by dropping to zero hours under their myolemiss portal until the last day of the term. If the final ‘drop date’ has passed, the instructor will have the option of granting the student grades of “W” or “F” at their discretion. [TOP]

How does the “freshman forgiveness” work?

The Registrar’s Office Grade Forgiveness policy allows a student to retake a maximum of four courses in which the student has received a grade of “C-”, “D”, or “F”. The repeated courses must be the same courses and must be taken at the University of Mississippi. Once the student has taken the course for the second time and has received a final grade, it is the student’s responsibility to submit a Grade Forgiveness form to the Registrar’s office for processing. The form can be found on the Registrar’s office website or a hard copy can be picked up from the Registrar’s Office in Martindale. [TOP]

How do I know what are my pre-requisites?

A student can find the pre-requisite(s) for a course in three ways: look up the course on the Course Schedule located under the myolemiss portal, look at your Academic Program Sheet for your major, or look at the course descriptions in the undergraduate catalog found at catalog.olemiss.edu. [TOP]

How do I get Study Abroad courses approved?

Once a student has decided on what courses they would like to take on their Study Abroad trip, the student must get a course syllabus for each course and present it to the department chair of that course. Once the department chair has decided what the course(s) will count for, the form is then turned in to the Assistant to the Dean to see how the course(s) will be applicable to degree progression.
