Ole Miss Business | University of Mississippi

Welcome to Risk Management and Insurance (RMI)

Since its inception in 1947, the University of Mississippi's Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) program has demonstrated an abiding commitment to quality RMI education. The program is recognized as one of the oldest programs of its kind in the country, and with approximately 150 majors the program regularly places among the top 10 in the nation in size. Our award winning faculty work to provide students with relevant, rigorous education and connect them with employers and future colleagues. We appreciate substantial industry involvement in our program via our annual Insurance Symposium, biannual RMI Career Fairs, and the Ole Miss Insurance Classic golf tournament. For more information on our program please browse our website and contact us with any questions.

Two students selected as ABSIP participants

Two Ole Miss RMI students were recently selected to participate in the Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program (ABSIP). The students, Connor Aldridge and Matthew Sease, will receive an all-expense paid trip to attend the Risk and Insurance Management Society's (RIMS) annual conference in Philadelphia, PA. The students are among only 30 students selected nationally to participate in the program, which will give the students access to ABSIP-only programs that take place during the conference. Additionally, the conference represents a unique opportunity for the students to learn more about the risk and insurance industry and it allows them to interact and network with professionals and students from across the country.

New Scholarship created by Lance Ewing

Mr. Lance Ewing (Vice President of AIG) of Cordova, TN recently established the Lance J. Ewing Endowment for Business Excellence in Risk Management and Insurance to provide scholarships for students that change their major to RMI. "I hope long term that the scholarship will help open the eyes of non-risk management majors to see this field as an exciting, fun and highly vital vocation," Ewing said. "Insurance and risk management may not always look glamorous on the outside but once a student enters the profession, very few leave because of the exposure they receive to so many facets of the business world." Two students selected as ABSIP participants

Two Ole Miss RMI students (Sydney Hedberg and Mitch England) were accepted into the prestigious Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program (ABSIP) in February 2015. The students selected for this program were provided with an all-expense paid trip to the RIMS annual conference that took place in New Orleans and got to participate in a number of programs designed specifically for ABSIP participants. The students also interacted with industry professionals throughout the four day event, learned more about careers in the insurance and risk management, developed a better understanding of the important issues that currently face professionals in the industry, and networked with other RMI students located across the country.

Group attends RIMS annual conference in New Orleans

Due to generous funding provided by the Memphis Chapter of RIMS, four Ole Miss RMI students attended the 2015 Risk and Insurance Management Society's (RIMS) annual conference in New Orleans, LA in April. Madison Claire Donahoe, Meghan Hickey, Patrick Makohin, and Drayton Neely were each selected to receive an all-expense paid trip to the conference, which attracts several thousand industry professionals and includes educational sessions covering a wide range of insurance and risk management topics. The students were selected based on academic achievement, work experience, program involvement, and service to the program. The Ole Miss RMI program and its students are incredibly grateful for the Memphis Chapter of RIMS generosity and support of our program.
